This is a wall control, not a handheld remote
The two are often confused, and the difference decides whether the part will work in your home at all.
A wall control is wired in
- It replaces the wall switch, mounted on the wall at the switch box.
- It is connected in line with the fan supply — three wires, done at the wall, not at the ceiling.
- It takes its power from the mains, so there is no battery to change.
- It needs no neutral wire at the switch box, which is why it suits older wiring.
What it is not
- It is not a wireless handheld remote. Nothing here is battery powered or carried around the room.
- It does not include a receiver. A receiver is only needed for fans that are controlled from a handheld remote at the ceiling — if that is what you have, see BY061 + MINI R28.
- It does not control a fan's reverse function.
- It is not for DC motor fans.
Wiring and pairing, in short
- Wire it in series. The control sits in the live line between the supply and the fan. Green is ground; black is the feed in and the switched feed out to the fan.
- Never connect the neutral wire to the control. The neutral runs straight to the fan. Wiring it into the control can damage the unit and is a fire risk.
- Four DIP switches set the code. If you are replacing an old control, set the new one to the same code the old one used.
- Single-pole circuits only. It is not for a 3-way or 4-way switch circuit.

- 110–130 V, 60 Hz, 3-speed AC ceiling fans that have a four-position fan control.
- Switch boxes with no neutral wire — common in older homes.
- Dimmable LED and CFL lamps, and incandescent or halogen on the light circuit.
- Fans currently controlled by a wall switch that you want to add dimming and speed control to.
Does not work with
- DC motor ceiling fans. They use a different controller.
- Non-dimmable LED and CFL lamps. They switch on and off, but will not dim.
- Reverse / direction control. Use the switch on the fan housing as before.
- Fans without a compatible four-position controller. Check against the model list below before ordering.
