Two pack sizes, one model. FAN-TT53 is supplied either as a single kit or as a 2-pack containing two complete sets of the same transmitter and receiver. The model and the components are identical.

Overview

FAN-TT53 pairs a 53T handheld transmitter with an FAN28R in-canopy receiver. The receiver wires in at the ceiling, between the house supply and the fan, so nothing has to be run through the wall. The transmitter then pairs to it by matching DIP-switch codes — no app, no hub, and nothing to program.

The FAN28R receiver is rated at 240 W, and the kit is designed for 110–120 V, 3-speed AC ceiling fans. You do not have to take the light kit or the blades off to fit it.

Key points

  • 3 fan speeds — HI, MED and LOW, plus OFF, from the handheld transmitter.
  • Light dimming — smooth dimming for incandescent, halogen and dimmable LED/CFL lamps. Non-dimmable LEDs and CFLs switch on and off only.
  • DIP-switch pairing in about 3 seconds. Factory default code is 0000; change it on installation so a neighbour's remote cannot operate your fan.
  • 5-wire plug-and-play installation — two wires in from the power supply, three out to the fan and light. The five connecting nuts are in the box.
  • No need to remove the light kit or blades.
  • Fits a standard 4.5″ canopy — measure yours before ordering.
  • 9 V battery required, not included.

What is in the box

  • 53T handheld transmitter × 1
  • FAN28R in-canopy receiver × 1
  • Wire connecting nuts × 5
  • Printed installation instructions × 1
  • 9 V battery — not included

The 2-pack contains two complete sets.

What it works with — and what it does not

Stated plainly, because a kit that turns up and does not fit costs everyone more than a kit that was not ordered.

Works with

  • 110–120 V, 3-speed AC ceiling fans. The FAN28R controls an AC motor through the fan's existing wiring.
  • Major fan brands. Used successfully with Hunter, Hampton Bay, Harbor Breeze and Honeywell fans, among others.
  • Standard 4.5″ canopies. The receiver measures 120 × 53 mm, sized to sit inside a canopy of that size.
  • Incandescent, halogen and dimmable LED/CFL lamps on the light circuit.
  • Pull-chain and wall-switch fans that you want to convert to remote control.

Does not work with

  • DC motor ceiling fans. DC fans use a different controller and are not compatible with this receiver.
  • Reverse / direction control. The kit does not support the fan's reverse function. Where a reverse switch exists on the fan housing, you keep using that.
  • Non-dimmable LED and CFL lamps — they will switch on and off, but will not dim.
  • Canopies that are not 4.5″. Measure before ordering.
  • 230 V supplies. This kit is for 110–120 V, 60 Hz.

Installation

A remote kit is wired at the fan, not at the wall switch. If you are not confident working at a ceiling outlet, have a licensed electrician fit it.

1

Isolate the circuit

Switch off the breaker and confirm the fan is dead at the wall switch before touching any wiring.

2

Wire the receiver in the canopy

Connect two wires in from the power supply and three out to the fan and light, matching by colour, then set the DIP switches to a code of your choosing.

3

Power on and match the code

Restore power and set the transmitter to the same DIP code. Fit the 9 V battery, then test each speed and the light.

Wiring diagram for the FAN28R receiver: power source input of white and red or black, receiver output of white, black and blue to the fan and light, with the antenna placed outside the canopy and the receiver mounted inside the canopy.
Wiring diagram — 2 wires in from the supply, 3 wires out to the fan and light. Keeping the antenna outside the canopy gives the best operating distance.

Two settings to check before you start

Set the pull chains first. The fan's pull chain must be left at the HIGH setting and the light's pull chain at ON. The receiver takes over from there — speed is then controlled from the remote. This is how the kit is designed to work, not a fault.
Antenna. Route the receiver's antenna so it sits outside the canopy. Bunching it up inside shortens the operating distance.
Safety. Ceiling fans and their wiring operate at mains voltage. Isolate the circuit at the breaker before opening the canopy. Do not install a receiver that shows signs of heat damage, scorching or a burnt smell. Use the wire connecting nuts supplied with the kit.
